Skarn

A rock formed at the contact between a magmatic intrusion and a carbonate rock (limestone, dolomite). Hot fluids replace the carbonates with calcium-rich silicates and often deposit metals.

Composition

Minerals: garnets (andradite, grossular), pyroxenes (diopside, hedenbergite), wollastonite; metals depending on the case: Cu, Fe, W, Mo, Zn, Pb, Au.
