Layered intrusion

A large body of mafic or ultramafic magma cooled slowly at depth, in which crystals settled in successive layers. Some layers concentrate chromium and platinum-group elements, as in the Bushveld or Stillwater.

Composition

Rocks: peridotite, pyroxenite, norite, gabbro, anorthosite, chromitite.
