San Rafael

Eastern Cordillera (southeast), Peru

PorphyriesSn-W

Type
Sn-W porphyry with associated Cu-Zn-Pb-Ag

An Oligocene to Miocene tin-tungsten deposit in southeastern Peru. It formed by mixing of a reduced, tin-rich magmatic fluid with an oxidised meteoric fluid. Successive tourmaline generations (Tur 1 to Tur 3) record the evolution of the hydrothermal system.

18.6 / 19.3hydrothermal tourmaline (Tur 1 to Tur 3 generations)
Initial ratios (206Pb/204Pb(i) and following), corrected for radioactive decay since about 25 Ma. They agree with the signature of the San Rafael granites (206Pb/204Pb(i) of 18.6 to 18.8).
