IsoFind, open platform for isotope data
Open scientific platform · isotopes and geochemistry

Your isotope data, together at last, and built to last.

Analyze and couple your isotope and geochemical data, trace a material back to its origin and prove it, without sending anything to a server. IsoFind opens up your results instead of locking them in.

Laboratories · Engineering consultancies · Compliance and procurement teams · Environmental and forensic investigation

Essential is free forever for research and teaching. Windows, Linux version coming soon.

Isotope work is fragmented

Tools that do not talk to each other

A spreadsheet for the data, a script for the calculations, another piece of software for the geochemistry. Every hop between tools loses context, and sometimes the trace of the method itself.

Results you cannot prove

A number in a file says nothing about its uncertainty, its purification yield or its protocol. A year later, nobody remembers how it was obtained.

Data you will not expose

Sending sensitive measurements to an online service is often impossible, for contractual reasons as much as regulatory ones, or simply for sovereignty.

IsoFind brings these three moments of scientific work into a single environment, on your machine, locking nothing in.

One environment, from measurement to proof

Keep your methods Carry on running your Python and R scripts directly on your data, without rewriting them or switching tools.
Couple geochemistry and isotopes Speciation, reactive transport and isotope signatures in the same environment, instead of making two programs talk to each other.
Share without losing traceability Every result leaves as an open, signed file that carries its method with it, verifiable by a third party, even ten years from now.
Why it is different

Open by design, not open by accident

A platform is only worth something if you can leave it. The plugin system is not a promise: R and PHREEQC are already two of them, free and available. Every brick exists so that your data and your methods stay yours.

ISOF format

Your results live in an open, signed file, readable without IsoFind. MIT licence.

Plugins

Extend the platform to your needs. Two free plugins already ship, others come from the community.

R free plugin

Built-in console: your statistical scripts run straight on your datasets.

PHREEQC free plugin

Model speciation and geochemical equilibria without leaving your environment.

Python

Work with your data from your notebooks, using the isof package published on PyPI.

API

Plug IsoFind into your processing pipelines, your LIMS and your internal tools.

Excel and CSV

Import your existing tables without reformatting them by hand.

Air-gap

Runs on a fully isolated machine, with no connection and no remote account.

No data leaves your machine, no telemetry is sent back, and if you walk away from IsoFind one day, your files stay readable without it. No tracker, no advertising, no hidden subscription.

Reconstruct the origin, even after transformation

The isotope signature of an ore shifts during refining and transformation. IsoFind reconstructs the original signature from the final one, walking back through every step of the industrial chain.

Original signature Mine, deposit δ¹²³Sb = +0.32 ‰ Natural fingerprint Refining Industrial transformations Smelting, alloying, blending Isotope fractionation Δ‰ added at every step Measurement Final signature Finished product δ¹²³Sb = +0.58 ‰ Altered fingerprint IsoFind reconstruction IsoFind Quick Match + geochemical ML

IsoFind inverts the fractionation calculation at every industrial step to recover the original signature, and compares it against a reference database of known deposits. This is the core of the Quick Match Pro module and of the IsoSupply edition.

ISOF: the proof travels with the data

ISOF (Isotopic Secure Open Format) is the exchange format shared by every edition. A file signed by a laboratory can be verified free of charge by any Essential user, with no third-party server and no network connection. A colleague, a client or an auditor can check it without owning IsoFind.

ECDSA P-256 signature Each file is signed by the issuing laboratory through its X.509 certificate. Any alteration is detectable without a third-party server.
Complete analytical metadata Raw ratios, uncertainties, purification yields and protocols inside an immutable, reproducible container.
Fully offline, MIT licence Verification without a network connection, embeddable in any LIMS. The isof package is published on PyPI, available in Python and Rust.

What people ask before downloading

Why not just use a spreadsheet and a Python script?
Nothing stops you, and IsoFind does not ask you to abandon your scripts: R and Python keep running on your data. What a spreadsheet does not do is carry the uncertainty, the purification yield and the protocol alongside the measurement, nor produce a signed file that a third party can verify ten years from now. IsoFind brings those three things together in one place.
Essential, Research: what exactly is free?
Two distinct things, both free. IsoFind Essential is the core of the platform, an edition that is free forever: geochemical spreadsheet, sample database, management of standards and reference materials, mapping and visualizations, reading and writing of signed ISOF files, R and PHREEQC plugins. Research is the free mode of the generalist IsoFind software, which adds CSIA tracing of PFAS and pesticides, 3D visualization of those plumes, and basic PDF reports. The paid editions cover the Nexus engine, Quick Match, full predictive 3D modeling, SHA-256 sealing with audit trail, encryption and multi-user support. See the full matrix
Is a signature produced with Essential legally defensible?
The technical ability to sign is free in every edition, Essential included. For that signature to carry a chain of trust recognized across the ecosystem, you need a certificate issued by the IsoFind certificate authority, sold separately across four tiers, from the individual researcher to the large group. The software that signs is free, the certificate is paid, exactly as with code signing.
What happens when my subscription ends?
IsoFind does not lock up and your data stays intact. When the licence expires, the generalist software automatically reverts to Research mode, its free version: your samples, your projects and your ISOF files are fully preserved, and only the features reserved for paid editions become unavailable. Renewing means importing a new licence file, with no reinstallation and no data loss.
Why contribute to the community database?
Because a provenance attribution is only as good as the reference set behind it. Anyone can contribute isotope data, certified reference materials or analytical methods, signed and then reviewed by moderation before becoming available to all. Contributing stays a deliberate act: you pick the samples one by one, nothing leaves without your explicit action, and the feature is simply absent in air-gap mode.
What happens to my data if IsoFind disappears?
It stays readable. The ISOF format is published under the MIT licence, its specification is public, and the isof Python package reads and verifies any file without IsoFind. The software itself depends on no server and no online infrastructure: nothing can deactivate it remotely on your machine, neither the disappearance of the vendor nor a commercial decision. No captive format, no vendor lock-in. See the code on GitHub
Does my data ever leave my machine?
Never. No telemetry, no remote account, no automatic synchronization. An air-gap mode cuts off every attempt at a network connection, and the integrity of the binary is verified by SHA-256 fingerprint at each startup.
Which systems does IsoFind run on?
Windows today, with a Linux version planned. Installation is local and no network connection is required, neither to install nor to use the software.
